The company's competitive advantages lie in its unique range of generating assets, with capacity of 19,500 megawatts, three-quarters of it at HPPs; the most extensive expertise in private management in the Russian electric power industry - EuroSibEnergo has been a private operator since 2001; a good balance between various consumers, including UC RSUAL; and the lack of obligations to implement extensive investment programs, unlike the generating companies that were set up when the old power sector monopoly RAO UES of Russia was disbanded.

EuroSibEnergo's traditional focus on the aluminum industry, where UC RUSAL has been one of the main electricity consumers, has turned into strong competitive advantages in today's environment. While most Russian power companies have opted to raise their tariffs, EuroSibEnergo's mission has always been to generate low-cost electricity for UC RUSAL's smelters, and the Company has therefore placed particular emphasis on efficiency. Modernization has enabled the Krasnoyarsk HPP to maintain the lowest generating costs among Russian hydropower plants; and the HPPs controlled by OJSC Irkutskenergo, namely the Bratsk, Ust-Ilimsk and Irkutsk plants, have achieved higher productivity per employee than other Russian HPPs, while IrkutskEnergo's combined heat and power plants consume far less power than others in the region. All this has made EuroSibEnergo more sustainable and competitive during the liberalization of the Russian electricity market.
