Zhirikensky Mining and Processing Plant, which is run by Strikeforce Mining and Resources Ltd (SMR), a member of Oleg Deripaska's Basic Element holding and Russia's largest ferromolybdenum producer, exceeded design capacity for 2.375 tonnes of ferromolybdenum last year by 5% to produce 2,500 tonnes, the plant's director told Interfax.

"We performed ideally last year," Yury Reutov said.

Reutov said the plant boosted output after upgrading furnace productivity and obtaining concentrate with a higher moly content.

"We plant to continue the upgrades in 2010, but ferromolybdenum output will fall a little, to 2,200 tonnes," Reutov said, adding that some of the equipment will have to be stopped while it is being refurbished.

Strikeforce is a subsidiary of SoyuzMetalResource, which was established in 1997. It mines and processes copper and molybdenum concentrates and is Russia's biggest ferromolybdenum producer, which about 4% of global output

SoyuzMetalResource controls the Russia-based mining sector assets Sorsky and Zhirekensky copper-molybdenum mining and processing plants and Zhireken Ferromolybdenum Plant, and Kyrgyzstan-based Jany Jyld Gold Limited and Erchim-Tkhan.

Reports suggest that SMR is thinking of holding an initial public offering in Hong Kong in May, and could reach a final decision in March.
